Image via Before You Start The obvious first step here is to. But before you do anything else, a word of caution: once you've used the OS X installer, it will automatically delete the file you need to make the backup disk, so you'll want to either make a copy of the installer or create your disk before you upgrade. You can use a USB flash drive, external hard drive, or DVD-R disc, but the USB drive is quicker.

If you're using a USB drive, it has to be formatted as 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' and set to partition type 'GUID Partition Table' in order to work. Image via Once inside, browse to the ' Contents SharedSupport' folder where there will be a file called ' InstallESD.dmg.' This is the image file that contains the information you need to create the backup disk. Step 2: Open Disk Utility (located in your Applications Utilities folder). Step 3: Drag and drop the ' InstallESD.dmg' into the list of drives on the left and select it.
This should make it appear in the Source box on the right. If not, you may have to click the ' Restore' tab as seen below.
Nothing 'super' about it. I bought the superdrive as an essential piece of kit to accompany my Macbook pro (2015 model) as it did not have a built-in drive. The main reason I decided to I bought the superdrive as an essential piece of kit to accompany my Macbook pro (2015 model) as it did not have a built-in drive. The main reason I decided to pay the premium, the best part of £80, was the fact it was an Apple product - a brand I was familiar with and so far had not let me down. Unfortunately this drive is very temperamental, sometimes I have to load a CD into the drive multiple times before it works at all.
Sometimes it takes 2 hours to import a single CD and even this is not done correctly as only 30 seconds of the CD gets imported. Apple has moved away from built-in drives and my Macbook pro is amazing. However as apple moves away from USB slots ect., and we have to buy these add ons I expect them to at least work. My confidence in the brand and the products has been severely knocked and its hard to to feel cheated out of so much money.

I was lured in by the brand and the attractive design but thats all this have to offer, my advice would be to buy a cheaper drive that actually works and spend the rest of the money saved on more CD's! When connected via USB to iMac, it fails to be visible on the Desktop. Apple support asked me if it had a separate power supply. It is sold with the caption it can read and write cds and dvds, which is not possible. I would not recommend this to anyone.
